Collioure - Jeff Bailey V

Another day of travelling...

We had a 'scenic route' planned to get us from Viscos in the Pyrennees to Collioure - a coastal town in the very south of France, about 25km from the Spanish border. However, the rain and mist meant we were not to see as much of the countryside as we would have liked.

Photo opportunities were rare as well. It was evident when we were driving towards Collioure, that we were almost back in Spain as the houses changed from the typical grey of the French villages back to the white buildings with orange tile roofs of the Spanish.

We can definitely see the Spanish Catalan influence here, yet they speak French!

Arrived in Collioure about 4.30pm and very lucky to score a car park close by. After settling in, we strolled around this stunningly beautiful little town which hosts a lot of artists due to the clear light and stunning colours on display. Pic here shows harbour and artists' quarters.

The apartment, which is a former 'fishermans cottage' is only a short two-minute walk from the beach and the beautiful blue waters of the Meditteranean and multitudes of bars and restaurants.

I guess the original cottage used to stand on its own at an earlier stage but is now crammed among other buildings.

A big day tomorrow and we suspect a lot of walking. The weather is looking superb.
